As we head into autumn here in the southern hemisphere, it has been lovely to look around the garden and reflect on progress. It has been a long journey and a labour of love, and it is beginning to look a lot like a garden!
The garden is wild in design, so that it provides havens and shelter for beneficial insects. I am currently watching 20 monarch butterfly cocoons for signs of hatching!
And I have welcomed other buddies into the garden.
There have been plenty of flowers to enjoy.
I have been enjoying them both in the garden and in the kitchen.
I have been establishing large plants for shade, shelter and windbreaks.
I am also establishing medicinal herbs and nutrient dense plants, for optimal health and wellbeing from my garden - a veritable pharmacy from nature!
If you don’t have access to a garden space, it is possible to grow some of your own product indoors. Microgreens are a great way to start gardening if you are a beginner, and there are a variety of seeds to choose from.
These are mustard and cress, and amaranth microgreens. They are a great homegrown addition to your sandwiches, avocado toast, crackers… you can even just trim them and eat them!
I hope you have all had a lovely summer out there too. Please feel free to send me your favourite garden-to-table stories and pictures at:
Happy gardening! 🌻
